Concept / Approach
Casa el Riego is a project with the aim of creating a place that operates in complete harmony with nature, offers people a peaceful and nurturing environment and inspires them. Among other things, we are guided by the principles of permaculture, in which a respectful and integrative approach to the environment (people, animals and nature) and a sustainable and careful use of our resources are paramount.
We try to use traditional methods for all construction and maintenance work on the building, using only sustainable and environmentally friendly materials. We produce some of our cleaning agents ourselves using products from the garden. All other ecological cleaning products are sourced from a social zero waste project.
Hot water and electricity are provided by photovoltaic systems. Drinkable tap water is provided by an osmosis system in the guest kitchen.
The finca comprises approx. 9,400 m2 of land. Of this, approx. 3,000 m2 is currently planted with various native and tropical trees: mostly edible trees such as orange, mandarin, avocado, coffee, papaya, banana, mango, passion fruit, peach, apple and pear. We have planted a vegetable patch on an area of approx. 200 m2.
On the remaining, currently uncultivated and wild areas, we plan to create an edible forest.
We are also planning to reform the sewage system to reuse the gray water to irrigate the gardens.
As we believe that a sustainable life also includes a conscious and careful approach to oneself, we offer our guests a diverse sports, workshop and wellness program.
